C'mon Ehsann, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

July 16, 2006 / by nobullthinker

A charming article written by Dan Bilefsky appeared in the NY Times today. He informs us that Turkey has been pressed to tighten up its laws against "honor killings" in their Muslim population:

"...Until recently a family member of a dishonored girl, usually a brother under the age of 18, would carry out the death sentence and receive a short prison sentence because of his age."

Now doesn't that just portray the perfect picture of the loving, peaceful Muslim family? What father wouldn't be proud to send his boy to murder his sister, the whore?

This fine tradition has undergone some alteration of late due to changes in sentencing guidelines in Turkey. Minor boys who kill their sisters, mothers, aunts, cousins, etc are henceforth to be tried as adults. Muslim fathers are naturally reluctant to risk their son's going to prison for long stretches.

But the courageous men of Islam will not be deterred from the will of Allah (praise his name). They now order their naughty girls to commit suicide. If they refuse their deaths are made to look like suicide. Not surprisingly there has been a noticeable drop off in family vs. girl murders - but an alarming increase in girl suicides.

"...For Derya, a waiflike girl of 17, the order to kill herself came from an uncle and was delivered in a text message to her cell phone; 'You have blackened our name,' it read, 'Kill yourself and clean our shame or we will kill you.'"

No mention of a smiley face.

It all seems like a stupid waste when you think about it. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to strap a bomb on her and send her to a wedding? What are they thinking?

They even murder forced rape victims who had no control over their fate. Only in a dark, twisted 8th century religion would you find people capable of such violent acts upon their own loved ones. Of course, this is the same religion that has been known to forcdefully remove womens fingernails because they dared to wear fingernail polish.

[MAD] A good post. We are dealing with EVIL!

These are all traditions. Traditions are different from religions. They may call themselves Muslims, but is it wise to search for Islam in their acts?
You want to know Islam? Read the Quran, study the life of Muhammad, not focusing on a tradition (that used to be practiced long years before Islam in many countries) and call it "the meaning of Islam".
Can I search for Christianity in Bush's funny preachings? By your method of studying religions, all Chrsitians are as stupid as your stupid Mr. President. But I don't do that. I read the Bible, and the teachings of Jesus to get to know Christianity. Is that clear? The acts of the ordinary people do not give you a pure image of a religion.

It is true that every religion can be turned to evil purposes. But that is no excuse for not using common sense. You have a brain, you have eyes. You have a responsibility to condemn evil. If you fail to do so you are evil yourself. I have not heard you condemn the evil of killing defensless women or of the slaughter of innocents all over the world in the name of your prophet.

Ehsann, I don't think nobull is attacking Islam. He is attacking honor killings. Which also happen in other religions, BTW.

    Jungleray....

"Now doesn't that just portray the perfect picture of the loving, peaceful Muslim family?"
"It all seems like a stupid waste when you think about it. Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to strap a bomb on her and send her to a wedding? What are they thinking?"

Those sentences are obviously talking about Muslims. I just wanted to remind him that the tradition he brought the example of, had been practiced in many parts of Asia and Africa long before Muhammad and Islam. These are trdditions, and unfortunately many nations around the world mix religions with their historical traditions. The result turns out to be something opposite to the religion, but people take it as part of the religion. It's wrong. This tradition is one of the other barbaric traditions MIXED with Islam. I hope I could clarify it.

So I'll try to do that from now on. Every religion has some devil people who try to abuse the teachings of the religion just for self-benefit. But it's not true to judge the religion by the acts of those people.

Just like Christianity, there are different sects within Islam. All can not be painted with the same brush......
  • ehsann said 2 years ago
    Absolutely true.
  • nobullthinker said 2 years ago
They shouldn't be painted with the same brush but the overwhelming majority can be painted the same color: outrageous hatred.
  • wendysuz said 2 years ago
No, I wouldn't make that gross overgeneralization.
I've suggested this book many times before but it is one of the best in explaining the situation/divisions within Islam if you're interested in learning more. It's called "Jihad: The trail of Political Islam," and is by Gilles Kepel and Anthony F. Roberts.

Sorry, I'm having a difficult enough time keeping up with the divisions among Christians. Not that I have completely ignored the Middle East Islamic mayhem. I've read a couple books. But the Islamic divisions are beyond comprehension due to their regional and political entanglements.

There is a common adage that says, 'Kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out'. That's about what it will all add up to in the end. I can't imagine any god that would reward any religion that murdered in his name. They're all mad.
  • wendysuz said 2 years ago
If you are stating that all religions have raped, plundered, and murdered in God's name you are correct. The majority of wars which have been fought throughout history have had religion at the base.... such a thing is not solely found within Islam..... [HUH]
  • nobullthinker said 1 years ago
I'm not sure where you stand on Islam. It's true that all major religions have commited heinous acts in the name of god. Are you using that as justification for Islamic evil or are you condemning all religion?
  • jungleray said 2 years ago
Yeah, why waste the useful human life? [LOL][OHMY][MAD]

I do PT work for a company that donates all of its proceeds to an organization that is fighting to stop honor killings, female infanticide, breast cancer research and other women's health/human rights issues. It's a lipstick company: www.iampeacekeeper.com. Tell all the women you know about it! Every little bit helps.
  • wendysuz said 1 years ago
Not condemning anything. Specifically, my point is you can not use those actions as a litmus test to determine the evil of one specific religion as they have been universally perpetuated.
